Stepmom Getaway at The Chanler at Cliff Walk
The best thing about summertime in New England…
is getting to do all of the things you have been waiting to do throughout the long winter months. June through September is the time when the sun is out, and the temperature is perfect. Each year, my (stepmom) friend Erin and I do a girls weekend away in Rhode Island. We hang out, sip cocktails and talk about all things stepmom. As I have mentioned many times before, the reason I started Millennial Stepmom was to meet and connect with other stepmoms, apply everything I’ve learned to help others, and create a community so others can find their happiness and balance within the complexity of living in a blended family.
Erin and I met on Instagram, she was visiting a friend in Massachusetts that happened to live near me. I met her for coffee, and we have been friends ever since (if you can meet your spouse online I think it’s safe to say you can meet your friends online as well). Last year we started a new tradition of doing an annual girls weekend getaway to reflect on the year, talk about our life as stepmoms, and just relax and have some fun!
This year for our 2nd annual getaway we visited one of my longtime favorite spots, The Chanler at Cliff Walk. The first time I visited the Chanler was shortly after my 16th birthday. My aunt and uncle took my cousins and I for dinner, and I instantly fell in love with everything about it. Needless to say, it left a permanent impression on me, because now I go back every year!
The Chanler is one of the most historic mansions in Newport, and one of the top landmarks in Rhode Island. Built in 1870 as a private summer residence, it is now a top luxury hotel where you can have the full experience of staying in one of Newport’s mansions. Each of the 20 hotel rooms are uniquely designed and decorated in a period style that will make you feel like royalty. There are two restaurants on the property. Cara which opens for dinner daily, is an upscale dining experience with a menu that draws on “classic French, Italian and Spanish influences to present dishes as distinct as The Chanler's 20 uniquely designed guest rooms.” Here is a link to the menu.
If you are looking for a more casual dinning experience, the Café is another excellent dining choice. Erin and I had their brunch as well (note brunch is available only for if you are a guest at the hotel), which was outstanding. From the mimosas to breakfast sandwiches! Here is a link to their lunch and dinner menus.
The best part of dinning at the Chanler, whether you choose Cara, the Café, or just stop by for a drink at the bar, your experience will include scenic views of the cliffs and ocean making the experience even more memorable.
